Did you think collecting aluminum can tabs was an urban myth? It's not. Read how Aurilla Ripley got a great program going.
In the fall of 1992 I was teaching school in Aylmer at Davenport. The custodian shared with me that he had a 4 year old with CP and needed a wheelchair. He asked if my class would save aluminum tabs to be able to purchase one. They cost around $6000.00 and parents have many other expenses for these children such as medicines , special foods etc.. Soon I had my class and the other classes in the school saving tabs. Later other schools in the town were collecting too. Because I am involved with Girl Guides in the area , they joined us as well. At present we send out photo posters of the current child to over 300 schools in the region. The names of needy children are selected by Thames Valley Children Centre from their clients. Both the separate and public school boards are promoting this activity in the area as well as Lambton Kent schools.
Also 61 churches , service clubs, sports groups, businesses, RV campgrounds, etc. etc. are assisting us. At present we have just purchased our #52 set of wheels much to the gratitude of parents , students , extended families and friends. Once we sell the tabs to the highest recycle business price, we pay for the" wheels".
We encourage EVERYONE to save these no cost items and help others.
Thank you,
Aurilla Ripley

Dallas Reisenweber is a 16 years old Dundalk boy, who attends Grey Highlands Secondary School in Flesherton.
Dallas is "a beacon in the community", who loves to smile and chat with the locals. His family is very active in the area, and being an only child, he very much enjoys travelling.
He loves big trucks, school, especially history! One of his biggest likes however, is sports! His favourite teams being the Toronto Maple Leafs, the Blue Jays, the Owen Sound Attack and the Toronto Marlies. Because of joint issues, he needs a new larger wheelchair, which will aid his mobility.
Dallas will be our 62nd recipient!
So, please save your aluminum pop tabs to help us reach this goal.
Tabs may be dropped off at any participating school or Thames Valley Children's Centre, London.
